When it all started, there was no experience with wax at this level in Ukraine. There were no sculptors, make-up artists working with this material, there was no wax itself, which would meet the highest requirements in quality. This material should be both elastic and strong, as much as possible to match the texture and color of human skin. After hard work all these issues were resolved. Now the museum has a special laboratory that produces a complex wax material that retains its properties at temperatures from +40 to -40. In the workshops, high-quality sculptors-portraitists, sculptors-models are working. Before starting to work, they study a lot of information material, so that the figure in its growth and other parameters does not differ from the original. A variety of video material is also used: portraits, photographs, video clips, stills from movies, after the death mask. Sometimes heroes agree to pose for sculptors and present their own clothes for their wax double. The make-up artist with the help of color makes the waxy face almost alive: a blush, shadows under the eyes and so on. Very important, the difficult and painstaking work of the postigator, from natural hair makes the figures hairstyles. A special tool, he soldered one hair to his waxen head. Thus, the eyebrows, eyelashes, beard, mustache are made. In the work on the figure involved and medical specialists. The laboratory of eye prosthetics produces eyes for each character individually in color and size. Dentists make dentures. Today museum exposition is divided into several sections: state and political figures, among them the princes of Kievan Rus, the leaders of the government of the times of the Soviet Union and the presidents of independent Ukraine, outstanding writers, popular actors of the theater, cinema, stage, famous athletes. The collection is constantly replenished with new characters.
