The ancient fortification was built on a 7-9-meter-high cape. In ancient times it was surrounded by swampy lowlands and floodplains on three sides. At the same time, on the southern side it was separated from the upland by an arched 15-meter-high moat, which used to be deepened to the level of the floodplain, however today it is partially ploughed.
The dimensions of the fortified site are 105 × 30-45 m (the total area is 0.4 ha). On the southern side, there is a rampart, which is from 1.5 to 2.5 m high, along its perimeter. Along the southern and eastern sides the noted rampart is damaged by trenches . The site has a natural low towards the northern edge, where one can see the preserved round cavity with a diameter of 10 m and a depth of 1 m. The scientists believe that these are traces of an ancient well.
The excavations, which were conducted in 1997-2001, explored about 600 square meters of the fortified site of the Basiv Kut hillfort.
They revealed the remains of the internal wooden structures of the rampart on the north-eastern edge of the hillfort, which was damaged by a landslide.
The cultural layer of the hillport demonstrates the remnants of above-ground buildings. Their wooden elements (walls, ceilings) have not been preserved, but there are still parts of original foundations, i.e stone tilings, which were probably placed at the corners of the buildings.
