Planetarium

Probably, each of us, child or adult, looking at the starry sky, dreams of flying high into this dark mystery of space. We would like to feel as a bird, to touch the stars, to leave the footprint on the moon or to see the Martians.

In this case, we would need a spacecraft, which, unfortunately, won’t be invented soon. However, we know that you don’t like to wait, so today we are inviting you to the Planetarium, where the universe will be a little closer and will reveal its magic secrets to you. And who knows, maybe one day you will be the discoverer of the new Galaxy!
Our Kyiv Planetarium is the oldest and largest in Ukraine. The size of its dome is the second in Europe, and it’s really huge!
The planetarium was founded on January 2, 1952. The initiator of its creation was Sergei Konstantinovich Vishsvyatynsky - an astronomer who devoted his entire life to the study of space. At first, the church of St. Alexander was rebuilt for the planetarium, and since 1988 - the Kyiv planetarium has begun its work in a new building on the street Velyka Vasilkivska, where you can visit it today .
It is interesting to know that from 2002 to 2016, the director of the planetarium was the man, who discovered the true comet! His name is Klim Ivanovich Churyumov.
Kyiv Planetarium is a unique place where science fiction becomes a reality, and the starry sky makes us so happy and glad with its beauty and reveals its secrets at any time and in any weather. And it’s a real fun! You may feel like you are in the Space!
In the summer of 2016, the newest equipment was installed here. It allows you to watch movies on one of Europe's largest spherical screens. You will see such astronomical effects as meteor shower, comet's movement, phase changes of the moon, solar eclipse, light bulb, and even polar glow. Just imagine! You would never see such a view on your computer or TV.
Thanks to the innovation, the Kyiv planetarium became a place of researches not only about space. Here we also show you the fascinating world of nature, we can explore the human body and even look into the future!
So, we are waiting for you, the future pioneer of the boundless cosmic spaces of the Universe!
See you there!
